Born 5/6/86 in Boca Raton, FL, saxophonist Elliott Friedman was exposed to several major jazz artists including Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt, and Billie Holiday during his adolescence. He is a third-generation sax player following the family tradition of his grandfather's professional work in New York's Catskill Mountains during the 1940s and his father's collegeic experience at Columbia University. He started studying music at the age of 8 with Scott Streeter on the soprano saxophone. After moving to Kentucky in 1998, Elliott continued his musical education through high school while studying with John Richardson on the tenor saxophone. He was a 4 year member of the Bluegrass Youth Jazz Ensemble and eventually earned top honors as first chair Tenor Sax in the Kentucky All-State Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mike Tamaro. Elliott moved to Charleston, SC in 2004 to study with Robert Lewis at the College of Charleston. He currently resides in Charleston and has played professionally at such venues as The Charleston Place Hotel, DeBordieu Colony Country Club, and several local restaurants and bars.
Outside of private study with the aforementioned musicians, Elliott has
studied with other great jazz professionals such as Quenton Baxter,
Frank Duvall, Tommy Gill, Dave Haywood, Lee Barbour, Jamey Abersold,
Eric Alexander, Sam Rivers, Miles Osland, John Coffin, Raleigh Daily,
Bob Berg, Bob Mitzer, Vinny Dimartino, Jonathan Anderson, Harry
Pickens, James Williams and Clay Ross. This firm foundation of
world-class artists has helped Elliott reach his current level of
musicianship and will continue to inspire his music for time to come.
